Cooking & Gardening
RCS provides a one-of-a-kind learning experience where children engage in hands-on cooking and gardening programs. Here, students plant, tend, and harvest their own vegetables, learning about sustainability and the joys of growing food. Under the guidance of a professional chef, they transform their harvest into healthy, organic meals, mastering essential cooking skills along the way. This program fosters creativity, responsibility, and a deep connection to nature, empowering children to make nutritious food choices and gain valuable life skills in a fun and interactive environment. Join us and watch your child flourish in our vibrant, holistic community.
The garden program allows students to actively participate in the entire farm-to-fork process: planting, tending, harvesting, preparing, cooking, and eating or selling. Several times a year, the school hosts a Farmer's Market where student can gain exposure to customer service and handling money as they sell their school-grown produce to family and friends.
RCS also offers cooking summer camps each year, usually involving a special theme or cultural cuisine for each day. Some favorite themes from previous years have been, "Vietnamese Street Food," "Game Day Eats," and "Burrito Bash."
Under the supervision of Chef D, students gain exposure to a variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as kitchen tools and cooking methods. They learn safe knife-handling skills, get to practice preparing healthy meals, and learn about foods from a multitude of cultures. These real-life skills set the foundation for adults who are health-conscious, in-tune with the environment, confident, and capable.
