Participation Readiness
At RCS, we prioritize the social, emotional, and academic development of our students. We strive to create an open and safe environment that encourages independence and creativity. Our unique philosophy and setting require an age-appropriate level of self-regulation and participation readiness to ensure that all students can grow, learn, and thrive in a secure and supportive environment.
While we would love to welcome all families who choose our unique learning environment, we are a small, nonprofit organization with limited resources. Therefore, we have developed Participation Readiness guidelines so that we can make the most of our resources for the most children possible. We offer the guidelines below as an initial resource for parents to understand our minimum expectations of all students. RCS, however, reserves the right to make final decisions about the suitability of our program for any student.
Please review the list below to ensure that your student is ready to participate at RCS. We understand that any child may have an “off day.” However, we expect that for most of the time, RCS students are capable of and willing to:
Separate from caretaker(s) in order to participate
Follow teacher’s direction
Respond to challenging situations without resorting to physical violence or verbal aggression.
Independently transition between activities and adapt to minor changes in routines
Perform tasks without constant one-on-one adult support
Stay with the class/refrain from wandering off
Dress, use the restroom, and wash hands independently
Voice needs or concerns to get support
If your child has any special needs or you have concerns about your child's readiness for participation at RCS, please contact us.
