At RCS, we prioritize the social, emotional, and academic development of our students. We strive to create an open and safe environment that encourages independence and creativity. Our unique philosophy and setting require an age-appropriate level of self-regulation and participation readiness to ensure that all students can grow, learn, and thrive in a secure and supportive environment.
Please review the list below to ensure that your student is ready to participate at RCS. We understand that any child may have an “off day.” However, we expect that for most of the time, RCS students are capable of and willing to:
Separate from caretaker(s) in order to participate
Demonstrate willingness to participate
Voice needs or concerns to seek support
Transition independently between activities and adapt to minor routine changes
Perform tasks without constant one-on-one support
Stay with the class and refrain from wandering off
Dress, use the restroom, and wash hands independently
Respond to challenges without physical or verbal aggression
If your child has any special needs or you have any concerns about your child's readiness for participation in our program, please contact us.
Roseville Community School is a non-discriminatory learning center that does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, gender, gender identification, sexual orientation, or religion or any other basis protected by federal, state, local law, ordinance or regulation. RCS’s non-discrimination policy applies to admission, employment, and all school programs.
At Roseville Community School, we believe every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and included as they learn and grow. As a progressive, independent, nonprofit learning center, we are committed to creating a respectful and responsive environment for a wide range of learning styles and developmental needs.
We honor the uniqueness of each student by working closely with families to better understand and support their child’s strengths, challenges, and needs within the scope of our learning model.
Our Legal Standing
RCS is not a public or private school and therefore not legally governed by the same special education requirements as those institutions (such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or 504 Plans). We are not obligated to implement IEPs or provide disability services under those mandates. That said, we take inclusion seriously. While we are not a therapeutic or specialized program, we do offer a collaborative and child-centered approach to help support student needs when we have the capacity and alignment within our program.
Our Approach to Support
Our process begins with open, respectful communication. When families express that their child has specific learning, social-emotional, or medical needs, we:
● Invite families to share relevant information, including outside assessments or IEPs (optional but helpful)
● Meet together with teachers and caregivers to determine alignment and feasibility within our classrooms
● Collaboratively determine what supports might be offered within the structure and staffing of our learning center
● Maintain ongoing communication with families to revisit how things are going throughout the year
We value this personalized approach and strive to ensure students are meaningfully included and appropriately challenged—while also supporting the dynamics and needs of the full classroom community.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can RCS implement my child’s IEP?
RCS is not required to implement IEPs, but we welcome families to share relevant documents. We will review them to see what elements align with our setting and staffing, and determine what we are able to support.
What if my child requires an aide?
We are open to discussing a family-provided aide, depending on classroom fit and capacity. We require that all aides align with our educational philosophy and collaborate respectfully with staff. All aides must complete a background check.
Who do I talk to about accommodations or support needs?
Start by reaching out to our Administration Director. We’re happy to schedule a meeting to explore whether and how our program can support your child’s learning journey.
