Families Are at the Heart of RCS

Roseville Community School is more than a place your child goes to learn — it's a community you belong to. Parent participation is woven into everything we do, and it's one of the things that makes RCS truly unlike anywhere else.

What Parent Participation Means at RCS

At RCS, we believe parents are a child's first and most important teachers. Our parent participation model isn't a formality — it's the foundation of our community. When families are present and engaged, children learn differently. They see their parents as partners in education, they feel deeply connected to their school, and they experience what it looks like for adults to show up for something they care about.

Participating families support the classroom in meaningful ways — facilitating activities, supervising outdoor time, supporting enrichment programs, helping with campus maintenance, and simply being present as positive, engaged adults. The relationships formed through participation create a sense of shared ownership that makes RCS feel like home for children and families alike.

We recognize that participation looks different for every family. Life is busy, and schedules vary. That's why we've designed our participation model to be flexible, with multiple ways to get involved — and an opt-out option for families who truly cannot commit to regular hours.

How it Works

Your Monthly Participation Commitment
Enrollment Category Weekly Hours at RCS Monthly Hours Required
Category 1 3–6 hours/week 4 hours/month
Category 2 7–10 hours/week 6 hours/month
Category 3 11–15 hours/week 8 hours/month
Category 4 16–20 hours/week 10 hours/month
Category 5 21–30 hours/week 12 hours/month

Your Monthly Commitment

Participation hours are assigned based on your family's total weekly enrollment at RCS. Hours are per family — not per child — so families with multiple children enrolled only fulfill one set of hours based on their highest enrollment level.

Participation hours can include classroom support, campus projects, administrative help, event support, and other approved volunteer opportunities coordinated with administration.

Fall & Spring Workdays

Twice each year, our entire community comes together for a campus workday — one in the fall and one in the spring. These are required for all enrolled families and are some of our most beloved community traditions.

Each workday requires 6 hours of participation, for a total of 12 hours annually. Tasks vary — campus beautification, classroom preparation, garden maintenance, building projects, and more. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect with other RCS families while making a real, visible difference to the school.

Families who do not complete required Spring Workday hours will be billed at $30 per hour for any unfulfilled portion.

Workday dates are communicated ahead of the academic year and will be on the school calendar.

We understand that work schedules, family circumstances, and life don't always make regular volunteering possible. Families who are unable to fulfill required participation hours may elect to opt out by paying a monthly opt-out fee in place of their hours.

Opt-out elections apply for the full academic year and fees are billed monthly, September through May.

Opt-out fees are non-refundable and are separate from program fees. Families who do not fulfill participation hours and have not elected to opt out may be assessed the equivalent opt-out fee.

Can't Commit to Hours? We Have an Opt-Out Option.

Category 2 6 hours/month $100/month
Category 3 8 hours/month $150/month
Category 4 10 hours/month $250/month
Category 5 12 hours/month $350/month

Families with Children at RCS & Roseville Community Preschool

Families with one child enrolled at Roseville Community School and a sibling enrolled at Roseville Community Preschool (RCP) receive a 50% reduction in required parent participation hours at RCS, recognizing the participation commitments that span both programs. This adjustment applies only to participation requirements at RCS and does not affect enrollment or obligations at RCP.

Orientation — Required Before the First Day

All enrolling families are required to attend a new family orientation session prior to the start of the school year. Orientation covers school policies, daily routines, communication procedures, parent participation expectations, and program philosophy — everything you need to feel confident and connected from day one.

At least one parent or guardian per family must attend. Failure to attend orientation may result in a delay of your child's start date. There is a $120 fee for missing orientation.

Orientation dates will be communicated prior to the start of the academic year. Watch for announcements via our mailing list and the school calendar.

Questions About Parent Participation?

We know this is a lot of information, and we're happy to walk you through it. Parent participation is one of the things families come to love most about RCS — and we want to make sure it feels manageable and meaningful from the start.
