Now Enrolling for Spring Semester!
Roseville Community School is a homeschool learning center and certified vendor with six Placer County charter schools. Our flexible programs—from core academics to hands-on enrichment—support whole-child growth, including social-emotional learning, creativity, and community connection.
At Roseville Community Learning Center, we cultivate creative, confident, critical thinkers through hands-on, child-centered progressive education. As a charter vendor serving homeschool families, we nurture curiosity, social and academic risk-taking, and each child's authentic voice in a supportive, collaborative community where learning comes alive.
We envision a dynamic learning community where children are celebrated for their individuality, encouraged to take meaningful risks, and motivated to develop into compassionate, imaginative, self-assured individuals. Together, we're raising the dreamers, thinkers, and doers who will make meaningful contributions to the world.
An education at RCS is founded in the Progressive Education Model (PEM), as described by renowned educator Alfie Kohn. This transformative approach has eight core characteristics that shape every aspect of our program. Through hands-on learning strategies, multi-age classrooms, meaningful parent involvement, authentic community interactions, and cherished school traditions, we bring these values to life. Our ultimate goal is to support students in becoming confident, compassionate people ready to shape tomorrow.
1992: The Beginning
Inspired by educator Bev Bos, families from Roseville Community Preschool founded an elementary school embodying child-centered learning principles. One teacher, a shared vision, a trailer on a dirt patch—this unlikely setting became the birthplace of something extraordinary.
1993: Foundation & Growth
Mary Jo, holding a Masters in Education from Mills College, joined as a passionate advocate and leader. Her expertise in Constructivist Principles transformed the program, emphasizing rich, hands-on learning in multi-age environments. Today, she continues teaching and serving as academic advisor.
Building Community
The first board of directors was elected, creating a collaborative leadership model. Outstanding teachers embraced our progressive philosophy, and dedicated parents invested countless hours. Together, they established beloved traditions that continue strengthening our learning community today.
2018: Expanding Our Reach
RCS opened as a learning center supporting homeschooling families. While continuing to build on our progressive education foundation, we now serve more families seeking meaningful educational alternatives that honor each child's unique journey.
That humble trailer became our cherished Community Room. The dirt patch transformed into our vibrant sand yard, now filled with towering trees, an exciting zipline, rope swings, creative loose parts, and treehouses that spark imagination and adventure every single day.
We honor our mentor, Bev Bos, recognized nationally and internationally for advocating children's intrinsic motivation to learn. In 1992, she inspired a group of parents to build this thriving community—one that continues growing, learning, and inspiring families today.
